Baxter Inn & Manta Restaurant

So for a last nice meal before we leave Sydney we decided to head out last night to a couple of the better places in Sydney; Baxter Inn and Manta Restaurant

We started at the Baxter Inn, which is owned by the same guys who own Shady Pines. Baxter is definitely my favourite bar in Sydney. Quite hard to find, being in a basement located down an alley way but that just adds to the charm; a very ‘Melbourne’ style bar. It’s set out like an old school US speak-easy filled with old memorabilia and a scotch list of over 300 different scotches, complimented by some amazing cocktails, and imported microbrew beers.

I had the Auchentoshan 12yo Scotch last time i was here and it blew me away. First lowland scotch i had tried and i will definitely be buying a bottle when we get back to Aus, so smooth with a nice caramel flavour at the start.  I also tried Moylans Tipperary Pale Ale, which is an import from California. A nice nutty taste with a smooth finish and virtually no bitterness.

We then headed over to Manta Restaurant on Woolloomooloo Wharf. We’re not normally huge fans of Sydney Rock oysters, but this is the place to have them if you must, sourced locally, daily and so fresh and creamy. Still hard to beat a Coffin Bay pacific oyter though…

We also tried the Joselito Iberico Jamon De Bellota, which is constantly being rated as the best ham in the World. It was pretty amazing with a nice gamey, nutty taste that just dissolved in your mouth. Chrissy finished with a Chocolate Fondant which was pretty amazing also
